Jasper Reports Integration - beta release v0.8.0.0

First the good news: I have finally wrapped up the Jasper Reports Integration package and made it available for download.

It is in beta quality and needs some more testing (of the code and documentation) before it should be used in production. Once it hits the first production release, the interface packages should remain stable. Until then they might change with the later beta releases.

Everybody who wants to join the beta program is more than welcome! Any feedback is welcome.

You can get all the files, infos about the architecture and the installation guides here.

Then, I really have to apologize for taking so long (I had promised to release it much earlier) and not responding to many of the emails I have received. I am really sorry for that but my life has gone haywire in the last year - and I am still recovering from that.

Update on 04.09.2010: Version 1.1.0.0 is now available: http://daust.blogspot.com/2010/09/jasper-reports-integration-v1100.html

Regards,
~Dietmar.

Hi Dietmar,

good to see that you finally made it! ;-)

BTW, I think the code for integrating it into an application would be a perfect fit for an APEX 4.0 region plug-in! :-) Would make it super simple to add a report to a page.

Regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Yeah, I had some pretty bad times and just didn't have any free time to take care of that. I do feel bad about it. Ah, well. This is life ;).

Sounds great, have been thinking about that myself. Can I add processes to the page as well?

The problem is, that I cannot test it because I would need privileges on UTL_HTTP and this is not possible on apex.oracle.com.

Cheers,
~Dietmar.

No region plug-ins yet. It it should work with a region plug-in as well.

To my knowledge tryapexnow.com provides full access to UTL_HTTP because we want that people test web services as well.

So no excuses ;-)

dear sir,
i was quite a long time suffering in search of free reporting tool for oracle xe and apex since i am developing application package for charity, trusts and school administration without cost. I sincerely hope and can use this and wants to thank you. I am not good at installing software including oracle xe, apex 3.2.1 etc Some other tech people will be installing this to my machine and will be developing application package since i am good in pl/sql and application pages alone. Hence i can find a person to install this in my machine and will give feed back in 3-4 months. Intention of this message is thanking you before use itself.

Hi Dietmar,

Good concept! I did something similar a few years ago to integrate Oracle Reports with APEX through an URL which calls the Report Server from a PL/SQL package and capture the result in a BLOB. Works great.

Thanks for your post. I was searching for an alternative to the expensive Oracle Reports solution for a while and I definitely going to try this.

Learco

Dear dr.s.raghunathan, Learco and Oscar,

thanks for the positive feedback, I truly appreciate it.

Enjoy and please give feedback whether there are still problems with the installation procedures (0.8.0.1) or whether the installation and usage is straightforward or complicated. If so, please tell me where?

Did anybody try it on Oracle 11.1 or 11.2?

Does it work out of the box or are additional instructions needed?

Thanks,
Dietmar.

Hi Dietmar,

installation works perfect.
A demo application/report would help to get a quick start.

Thenx for the good work!

Kees.

Hi Dietmar,

is there a chance to blog also about the presentation you will make / made @ odtugkaleidoscope: APEX Application Lifecycles: Managing the Change? I made something similar but I am not 100% pleased with it. So I am curious what your solution is.

Unknown said...

Hi Dietmar,
Thank you for your wonderful solution. Am grateful to you for taking time out to create this.
Just wondering whether its possible to configure the jasperreports to save the report it crates directly to a shared directory instead of posting back to the browser?

Thanks,
Gaurav

Unknown said...

Hi Gaurav,

saving files on a directory accessible by the J2EE server is already implemented in the upcoming release 2.0.0:

http://daust.blogspot.de/2012/08/jasperreportsintegration-200-beta-test.html

It will still take a few weeks before it will be released.

Cheers,
~Dietmar.

Hi Dietmar,
That's really wonderful news...Infact, I've already downloaded the Beta :-)
Can you please tell me whether I need to rollback the pl-sql scripts that I ran for the earlier version namely:
1) sys_install.sql
2) sys_install_acl.sql
etc.

If so, then how? Are there uninstall versions of these scripts available?

Thanks,
Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,

please don't use the Beta Release 2.0.0.0 on your production systems as of now.

Please do post your question here: https://www.opal-consulting.de/forums/

This way the response is easier to find for all other users as well.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Dietmar.
